Starz Karaoke Bar and Deacon Brodie's Bar are housed within a former Methodist church and its adjoining building. There is an inter-connecting stairwell at the rear of the premises. The Ward Road Wesleyan Chapel, housed at 15-19 Ward Road, was opened in 1867 and was designed to hold 700 people but had seats for 500. The galleries offered extra space. Buiding work started in July 1866 following the plans of David MacKenzie who also designed a block of tenements and offices next door between Rattray Street and Nicoll Street. The chapel was built to replace the earlier and smaller church on Tally Street. Below the church were several classrooms and a vestry which now house Deacon Brodie's bar.
The church buiding remains merely a shell of its fomer self. The galleries are still evident and stained glass windows are visible from outside. The interior has been adapted with partition walls which prevent light entering the body of the church via the large windows at the front. Stone steps run up either side of the building inside to the galleries above within this partitioned area.
Dundee city council has a selection of old photographs of Ward Road and the chapel.

The team visited both bars twice before the investigation date. Once when the premises were
empty and another once when the bars were open and full of customers. Here are Tori's
thoughts and feelings prior to the investigation :
The first contact I had with the location was when we went to walk round to see the location,
during which I was drawn to the kitchen of Deacon brodies and was given the impression of a
man and children. It was quiet but there as still the presence of somebody watching us.
In starz I had the impression of lots of movement. There were a lot of spirits present there. Again
I had the impression of a man and thought there might be a few men there also a boy, a woman
and a little girl.I found it a little overwhelming, just with the amount I was picking up. I had to sit
down as I felt a little light headed with it all.
Many days prior to this investigation I had a lot of information coming through to me.
John
I picked up on spirit named John who would be at the church. He was related to the building
because he had worked there for a short period when he was a young man. He had lived to an old
age. While John had worked in the church he had to seal a coffin one day before a funeral and had
taken the opportunity to steal from the deceased. He would be the last to see the body and stole a
ring. He was in the same situation again when he decided to steal but this time the dead person was
a woman and he touched the body. After this he went on to lead a rather dark life. He was not a nice
person and he murdered at least one perhaps more people in his lifetime. He was never caught fo
his crimes. He was still at the church because not only had it all started there with the coffins but he
was also wracked with guilt for what he had done, although it never stopped him. He had been in the
war and had been blackmailed by a man and killed this man to stop him telling something he had
known about him. He killed this man by hitting him repeatedly in the head with something like a rock
but not sure exactly what he used.
I was told by my guide to be careful of john as he wouldn’t like us and would try to threaten us. After
this point whenever I tried to get more information on John all I got wERE nasty images probably
meant to scare.
We thought his name might have been Higgins and we also thought his date of birth may have been 1896,
however glass divination on the investigation said it was 1897, and for some reason the date 1892 stands
out in my mind. All of these socalled facts have not been verified in any way.
