Overview

The old, deserted village of Lawers is situated on the North shore of Loch Tay and was once an integral part of the farming community of the area as well as an important ferry terminal.  There are 4 remaining areas to the village - the barns & cemetary, the cottages & mill, the House of Lawers & church, and the old pier.  It is still possible to see most of the buildings although they are in ruins, some being more ruinous than others.

As you would expect from such an eerie place, the village is reputed to be haunted.  The apparition of a White Lady has been seen around the general village area.  Some people consider this ghost to be the Lady of Lawers who was the local soothsayer from the 17th century and who lived in the village.

The Lady of Lawers is famous for her prophecies, most of which predicted changes to the socioeconomic conditions of Lochtayside.  She is thought to have been the wife of one of the Lairds of Lawers and to have lived in the House of Lawers which is the first ruined buiding you come to when visiting the villlage.  Three of the prophecies are still to be fulfilled:

"A strange heir will come to Balloch when the Boar's Stone at Fearnan topples over"

"A ship driven by smoke will sink in the loch with great loss of life"

"The time will come when Ben Lawers will become so cold that it will chill and waste the land for seven miles"

Investigation

Sunday, 8th April, 2007

Investigators present: Katrina, Natalie, Eric, Laura, Bozzie, Mike, Tori

Outside Conditions:

Weather:  temp 6-11 degrees (variable),  Westerly wind, dull, slight drizzle at times

Moon:  waning globbous

The team parked their cars at the nearby hotel and accessed the village by walking down the long track from the hotel.  The first buildings we arrived at was the old Lawers House and Church next door.  Some of the team decided to sit here and rest while Laura and Tori made their way down to the old pier.

Following our quick break we decided to have a quick tour of the village and graveyard and then to split into 2 groups; one to stay at the church and another to investigate the main village area further along the track.  Each individual was to have the chance to swap locations after 30 minutes if they wished.  Due to the remoteness of the location and the fact that mobile phone signals were weak in the area, each group had a two-way radio to keep in touch with each other.

Summary

Nothing much was caught on camera, video etc apart from several orbs.  However, the team did see, hear and feel various things which we sadly do not have any evidence for.  Here is a summary of the occurrences and experiences from the investigation:

Pier

Tori and Laura reported feeling dizzy in this area and Tori stated that she felt a build up of energy here as well.

Church

Laura saw a bright flash of light with the naked eye just beside Eric inside the church walls.  Bozzie was filming outside and the rest of the team were at the other site.  No-one was taking flash photography nearby and the area is not near a main road which rules out car headlamps.

Main Village

The village had a nice feel to it and as you approach down the little road it is easy to imagine the village as it once was, with smoke coming from chimneys, children running about, people chatting etc.

Tori agreed that the village had a nice feel to it but also felt strange in some way to her.  She stated that she could feel someone watching us and often told us that she had seen a figure moving to hide behind a wall or buiding. She saw the head and shoulder of a figure as it passed behind the wall of the cottage in front of the bridge.  Mike arrived with the camera to take some photographs.  Tori had just seen an orange light behind one of the cottages and so he took a picture of that area which shows an orb with a tail.  Coincidence?

We decided to stand on the little bridge so that we could look back onto the village.  Natalie heard a muffled voice coming from the corner by the nearest buiding - the same area that Tori had seen the orange light and the outline of a figure earlier.  Katrina saw a dark shadow pass between the two buidings in front of the bridge but this shadow was quite low down and could easily have been an animal.

As the group prepared to leave and were back at the top of the road out, Tori heard a muffled female voice from behind, down in the village.  No-one was seen and no further noises were heard when whoever had made the noise was asked to repeat it.

The village was a fantastic location and the team felt that if more time had been avilable then more would have been experienced.  A return trip to Lawers is a must during the summer months and a high priority for the team.
